NWIN #20 – April 2007

In this edition of NorthWest Indian News, Lummi Tribal member Chenoa Egawa hosts the program from The Summit at Snoqualmie, where the Puyallup Tribe has partnered with the ski area to form the ‘Puyallup Future Olympians Ski and Snowboard Program’.  

Puyallup Future Olympians Ski and Snowboard Program, Frank Moxley, reporter.  Olympic and World Cup skiers, Stew Young, Tulalip and Suzy Chaffee are there to help Puyallup youth with ski lessons, preparing for Olympic Winter games.

Quinault fishermen still serve families throughout the world, by gracing their tables with the very highest of quality seafood… however, will the effects of global warming threaten their sacred fishing grounds?

“Star Nayea”, Niki Cleary, reporter.
A Grammy Award winning Native American singer, Star Nayea, knows the perils of substance abuse. Aside from her busy schedule as a performer, she takes the time to counsel Tribal youth.

At the Yakima Sundome, eight Tribal high school teams competed in the Washington State 1-B basketball tournament the Tulalip Heritage Hawks played for the state title. NWIN  presents a highlight reel of the team’s remarkable season.
